Search Engine
 Optimization (SEO)

SEO practices have changed since the early days.

Webmasters who exploited search engines' weaknesses caused ranking problems by 'keyword stuffing' (that is excessive use of meta keywords), which resulted in substantial changes to search engine indexing practices.

Although initially keyword stuffing seemed effective, the practice displayed erroneous results based on keyword use that had little or nothing to do with the actual page content. Search engines soon spotted this and developed counter measures. Now these techniques, known as 'black hat' have only negative effects on a web page's placement and ranking. Website owners who use black hat techniques are penalized with poor indexing or, in the extreme, no placement within search indexes.

Search engines are remarkably adept at finding those who would try to manipulate their results. Today's major search engines - Google, YaHoo, and Bing - have developed algorithms to organically index web pages. Search spiders (search bots) index web pages according to main points referenced within the page content.

Current search engine algorithms give more weight to external sources such as back links. Websites that link to your site add credibility and authority to your website in the eyes of the search bots. Search engines prefer to find one-way links as opposed to reciprocal (you link to mine, I'll link to yours) or three-way links.

At PricklyPear Media, we only wear "White Hats". We optimize your pages using Search Engine approved methods and help our clients find those all-important backlinks.
